Description

Are you an undergraduate or graduate student interested in developing your foreign language proficiency in a critical language, such as Arabic, Hindi, Mandarin, Korean, Russian, or Swahili? Please join the Office of International Education on Wednesday, November 1st at 4:00 PM as we take a deep dive in to this unique funding opportunity. In this session, we will be joined by a representative of the Boren Awards to learn more about the critical languages and destinations supported through the initiative.

The Boren Awards are an initiative of the Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO) at the U.S. Department of Defense, which focuses on the combined issues of language proficiency, national security, and the needs of the federal workforce. DLNSEO initiatives are designed to attract, recruit, and train future federal leaders. Boren Scholars and Fellows make a commitment to work in the U.S. federal government for a minimum of one year. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate a desire for a longer-term career with the federal government.

To be eligible for a Boren Award, you must be:

- a U.S. citizen

- Planning to study a foreign language in an eligible world region

- Matriculated in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited U.S. institution or applying to graduate school

- Non-citizen of destination country
