About
We are Tech’s premier organization dedicated to bringing the scouting spirit to campus! Whether it’s hiking/backpacking, trail cleanups, working with local troops, hosting clinics, service events, high adventure/camping trips, or anything else we get up to, Scouting at Georgia Tech is the place to be for people of any gender and level of scouting experience to find themselves through service and a love for the great outdoors.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This past year, members of our organization (which includes people of every gender, scouting experience, and background, and over 15 Eagle Scouts) completed over 100 service hours and helped over 50 scouts earn merit badges ranging from engineering to scholarship. We also took many trips within the organization, and we are currently planning a long, high adventure trip for 2022.
Last year, we conducted 3 merit badge clinics, allowing scouts to connect with STEM utilizing many of GT's incredible resources. For example, when we taught scouts the engineering merit badge, scouts were able to tour GT's maker spaces and famous Bobby Dodd Stadium, and they even got to watch a football game. Most recently, we conducted a virtual clinic for scouts all over Atlanta.
Additionally, we frequently take trips to many of Georgia's best parks and trails for sunrise hikes or just afternoon leisure. Other times, we work with Atlanta based service groups to complete nature or community driven events, such as working with Fernbank museum to remove invasive plants or helping Trees Atlanta plant trees along the famous BeltLine trail.
At our meetings, we maintain a strong focus on scholarship and athletics, no matter the experience level. At least once a month, we will play some sort of sport during our meeting, such as racquetball or volleyball to allow us to operate as a team while emphasizing an active lifestyle. At other meetings, we either plan future events and service projects, or we participate in GT events, such as attending a Guest Lecture series together. No matter the meeting, our goal is the same: become closer with one another and learn something in the process.
Finally, we pride ourselves on being a place for Georgia Tech students to simply forget about the stress of classes and instantly become a part of a close-knit community. Through this organization, we have all made new study buddies, future co-workers, mentors, room mates, and of course, friends for life. At the end of the day, our organization is about maintaining the spirit of scouting throughout our college years: improving ourselves, being active in our college and local community, and simply having fun.
We hope to see you this fall, and please don't hesitate to reach out to our leadership team (ScoutingAtGT@gmail.com) with any and all questions, and information on how to join, visit us at a meeting, or attend one of our events. Thank you!
